New Members Selected for Board of Directors

The Highlands at Wyomissing recently welcomed two new members to its board of directors: Geoffrey Eddowes and David George, MD.

Geoffrey Eddowes serves as Senior Vice President/Senior Operating Officer for the Penn Medicine/Lancaster General Health Women & Babies Hospital, providing operational oversight for the hospital.

Prior to joining Lancaster General Health in March 2006, Geoff served as President and CEO for Luthercare, a retirement management company based in Lititz, PA. He has also served as Vice President, Operations for American Retirement Corporation (now Brookdale Senior Living) and Willow Valley Communities.

Prior to his more than 30 years in post-acute and acute healthcare operations, Geoff served as Country Director for Food for the Hungry International, working on famine relief efforts to eradicate hunger in East Africa.

Mr. Eddowes serves as a board member for the PA Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital, Moravian Manor, BizCorp of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Hospice & Community Care. Geoff earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. David George is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Medical School. Dr. George trained in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA.  He practiced Rheumatology in Berks County for 35 years and has devoted much of his career to the education of physician trainees at Reading Hospital. During his career, Dr. George developed and expanded the Internal Medicine residency training program, developed collaborative sub-specialty fellowships in conjunction with Thomas Jefferson University and obtained grant funding for the creation of a primary care internal medicine residency training track. As Reading Hospital’s Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer, he oversaw all of the student and residency training programs, directed continuing medical education programs for clinicians and oversaw research activities, including Reading Hospital’s research relationship with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.  

During his career, Dr. George has been awarded the Laureate Award by the American College of Physicians, Courage to Teach Award by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, the Joseph Lee Hollander Award for Excellence and Achievement by the American College of Rheumatology, SGIM National Award for Innovation in Medical Education by the Society of General Internal Medicine and the AIAMC Innovation Award by the Alliance of Independent Academic Medical Centers. 

Dr. George currently serves as a Governor for the American College of Physicians. Ongoing interests include the role of physical activity and mindfulness for improved quality of life and models of healthcare that preserve a positive doctor/patient relationship.
