April 23, 2020: Responding to the spread of coronavirus, The Highlands at Wyomissing has actively prepared and continues to prepare to prevent and contain cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel virus.
“The health and wellness of our residents and the staff who support them is our top priority,” said Kevin P. DeAcosta, President and CEO. “Our team takes very seriously the spread of the coronavirus and we have provided education and resources to staff and residents. This is a fast-changing situation, and we are committed to ensuring that residents, their families, our dedicated staff, and our community are aware of our efforts and the precautions required for COVID-19 prevention and containment. Every day we do our part to aggressively prevent and mitigate the spread as we deliver compassionate care under challenging circumstances.”
The Highlands at Wyomissing’s leadership is in regular communication with local and state public health officials, our Medical Director, the PA Department of Health (DoH) as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Highlands at Wyomissing has an Emergency Preparedness Team, a Pandemic Response Team and a pandemic/widespread contagious illness response policy.
“At this time, we have one diagnosed COVID-19 case of a resident and five staff members having been infected with coronavirus. Throughout the pandemic we have had three positive residents’ cases and six positive staff members. One resident has recovered, one resident has passed away at the hospital and a third resident is currently quarantined in their residential residence. All staff members who have tested positive are at home and not working at this time along with four employees who have been tested and are awaiting results. Open communication is crucial; however, this is a fluid situation and information can change day to day. We provide regular updates to residents and families via the website, weekly Zoom calls, in house television station, mass phone blasts, emails and letters on our community’s status.”
