No Better Time Than Now

When presented with the idea of moving to a life plan community, the most common objection from seniors is “I’m not ready.” In most cases, when seniors give this response, they have already decided that they would in fact like to move to a retirement community someday, but whether they are 62 or 92 they don’t feel quite ready to make the move.

But there are factors to consider when not feeling quite ready. If you’re thinking that you’re too healthy or too active to move, did you know that in addition to being financially approved, residents are required to qualify medically in order to move to a life plan community, especially one that offers a Type A contract, like the Highlands at Wyomissing®. And it is important to lock in to the benefits of life care while you are still healthy. Not to mention with fitness and wellness programs like those offered at The Highlands, as well as a saltwater pool, being active and able to enjoy these amenities is a big plus.

In fact, most residents who move to The Highlands wish that they would have done so sooner. Tony and Diana Kleiner, who have lived at The Highlands since 2015, stressed the importance of making your decision to move when you are healthy and not in the midst of a crisis.

“We realized our lives weren’t going to get any easier,” said Tony.

“Don’t wait until it’s too late,” advised Diana, “It was nice that we could come together.”

Additionally, many current residents feel that by waiting until they were ready they unintentionally missed out on the fun parts of living in a retirement community. People in residential living communities live longer and have healthier lifestyles as a result of many factors including social opportunities, access to healthcare and a fitness center, fresh, healthy meals, and engagement and stimulation.

“Come to the Highlands when you are still young and active enough to get involved and participate,” said Cindy Laubach who moved to The Highlands with her husband Bill in 2018.

And if downsizing or decluttering your home is holding you back, you’ll be happy to know that there are senior moving specialists available to help with everything from packing and unpacking to donating and selling unwanted items to floor plan design and moving. Don’t let your stuff hold you back from living your best life. Focus on what you enjoy most without the stress of home ownership.

“Emptying our house was a big concern,” said Lynda Kuhn, who moved to The Highlands with her husband Ed in 2022, “But we had it emptied on the day we moved in. I didn’t think it was possible.”

Like many residents at The Highlands, Ed and Lynda said after moving they immediately felt relief from all of their burdens.

“There are challenges when you reach a certain age and know you have to make adjustments, but it was all simplified by making this move,” Ed explained.

So when you think about it, the real question for seniors considering a move to The Highlands or another life plan community is what is it you are not ready for? If you’re ready to live your best life, to engage in fun and stimulating activities, and to have peace of mind and feel secure about your future, then now is the time to start planning your move.
