Community Outreach

We believe in giving back to our community at The Highlands at Wyomissing®.

Many of our residents have a passion for giving back. While some use their craft to create items for donation, others volunteer their time with their favorite organizations or by giving a gift of music or companionship. This example of servitude continues through their retirement. In fact, our residents often find that they have more time to give back to others and make a difference in their church, their civic club, or within the greater community.

We welcome you to see the many ways in which our residents are continuing their impact near and far.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our residents are encouraged to either continue their work with their own favorite non-profit organization or to join others in a variety of philanthropic opportunities to not only better our greater community and world, but to also receive the blessing that only giving back can offer. Some of the organizations we love helping include:

  • United Way of Berks County

  • Ready.Set.READ!

  • New Journey Community Outreach

  • Berks Nature

  • Helping Harvest

Many of our residents use their passion and talent and work as partners with numerous wonderful non-profits.

“It’s the best gift my parents could have possibly given us at this stage of life.” Comments like this are common among adult children whose parents live in continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), and it is no wonder. Research reveals that family members who care for an aging loved one often experience clinically significant signs of depression, have less time available to spend with friends and other family members, and sacrifice financially by taking time away from their careers or retiring early. A study of 3,700 family members of CCRC residents revealed that 93 percent feel that the CCRC is providing good services to their loved ones, and 77 percent would be likely or very likely to consider a CCRC for themselves in the future.
